I have come to realise that life cannot be planned, but can only be LIVED.
We have been through many adventures over the past three years, from leaving Canada to spending two very memorable years in Oman. We have been extremely fortunate to have a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit places that we never dreamt would be on our travel list, let alone take up room in our adventure blogs. Dubai, India, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Kuala Lumpur have all been a part of our last three years and I cannot wait to write about those and of course our many adventures in the Sultanate of Oman.
But like I said, life cannot be planned, as we are now back in Canada, in a beautiful new city, new house, new assignment with Shell and new adventures that we have already begun to enjoy in our neighbouring Elk Island National Park. Being back home in beautiful Canada brings with it many wonderful things to look forward to. Enjoying the wintery wonderland, planning our summer camping trips and trying to decide where to go. Now that we are back we have decided that it is time to see and enjoy what this beautiful country has to offer.
Last weekend was a marvelous weekend to be outdoors. Having come out of a chilling week of temperatures below minus 45 degrees we took advantage of the sunshine. On Friday we ventured out to Elk Island National Park for a short walk with the boys to try and spot the buffalo. This park is known for the wild buffalo that roam and attracts visitors from everywhere. Pope John Paul the Second spent some quiet time at the park in 1984 and it was almost magical to read about how he spent his time in the park and walk the very same trail that he did.
Logan is becoming quite the fisherman. After catching his first Rainbow trout out on the ice at Chain Lakes Provincial Park I think he is “hooked”.
He is the first one to ask to go ice fishing and both him and Matthias really enjoy it. Of course, Derek and I being who we are have prepped for full comfort with Ice Fishing tent and heater on hand. The boys were so comfortable last weekend at Lac Ste. Anne that they wanted to stay overnight. Maybe next time.
We fished on Alberta Beach which is a village in central Alberta, Canada, west of Edmonton. It is located on the southeast shore of Lac Ste. Anne, approximately 8 km west of Highway 43 and 2 km north of Highway 633. Alberta Beach's economy is centred on tourism and recreation. I did manage to spend some time at the local antique store and found some amazing books on the Old West.
Closing out the weekend on Sunday we tested our limits snowshoeing in Elk Island national Park. We found a great trail just 2.8km (a good start after having not done it in more than two years). The boys had tonnes of fun being pulled in their sleds whilst Derek and I got some well-needed exercise after all the Christmas treats.
That was just one weekend. There is so much to explore on the Northern End of Alberta and it is all new to us. We can’t wait to do more and share it with you.
